Baucus’ Bacchanalia Fallout
No Denial From Staff on Drunken Behanvior, They Were Probably Drinking Too
(TTfD) Max Baucus’ staff have released a statement, and it in no way denies that Baucus was slurring his speech and attacking the intelligence of the voters as he stumbled through yet another attack on opposition to his sweetheart Reform plan to help Big Pharma and Big Insurance.
According to Politico:
A spokesman for Baucus released the following statement: ”When his friend of 30 years Ted Kennedy, with whom he had fought so hard to provide health care to children, was being used as a cheap foil to oppose health care reform, Senator Baucus gave a passionate defense. Unfortunately, those who want to kill any meaningful reform, turned it into an unfounded, untrue personal smear internet rumor. This is beyond the pale and this type of gutter politics has no place in the public sphere. It is this type of slander that makes Montanans, and Americans, disgusted with the politics as usual in Washington. And what is even more sad is that such a personal attack would be given any validity at all, let alone being elevated to the status of ‘news’.”
The statement proves as incoherent as Baucus himself. Republicans have never denied health care reform, nor have they fought against children getting adequate health care. They did, however, offer a plan which did not bow down to the powerful lobby of Big Pharma and Big Insurance, which was never explored as Baucus is on the take from those organizations.
The GOP plan would have allowed choice in providers, and abolished the restriction of shopping for insurance across state lines.
The official repsonse from Baucus aids may as well come from his bartender, as it never denies his behavior or imbibing but rather attacks those who point it out. Nor does it mention his corruption by his contributors, or the constant guidance by lobbyists even on CSPAN.
Anti-Gay? Democrat Double Standard On Morality
Mark Foley (R) resigned from Congress and his leaderships roles as a result of a scandal which involved him emailing and/or texting a former Page asking for pictures. He was right to resign and the GOP was right to suggest it. However, the indignation of the Democrats, especially that of Nancy Pelosi was outrageous.
Pelosi was boisterous calling for the politcal lynching of Foley, upset by the alleged non-contact actions of a closeted homosexual and all the while maintaining close relationships to criminal elements in the Gay Rights movement. Her statement as Minority Leader:
“The FBI rightly investigating Congressman Foley reported internet stalking of an underage former House Page. Mr. Foley is outside the reach of the House Ethics Committee, however the required investigation into the cover up of Mr Foley behavior by the Republican Leadership must move forward.
The childern who work as Pages in Congress are members special trust. Statements by the Republican Leadership indicate that they violated this trust when they were made aware of the internet stalking of an underage Page by Mr. Foley and covered it up for six months to a year
Congress must not pass the buck on investigating this cover up. The Childern , their parents, the public , and colleagues must be assured that abhorrent behavior is not tolerated and wil never happen again.”
She was right, of course, that this should have never happened in the first place. However, these were just words by Pelosi that were never followed though on. Her feelings shifted greatly when scandal involved those from her flock such as Gary Condit or her own President Bill Clinton.
Both Clinton and Condit were involved with actual relationships which were denied even past the point that physical evidence of the affairs existed. Both of these men were cheating on their wives, exhibiting bad behavior but ultimately were opening themselves up for blackmail which could in fact put the nation and its secrets at risk.
To establish the irony of Pelosi’s views on “sex,” one must note she maintains a 100% voting record on Pro-Choice issues, often referred to her as “Women’s Rights.” She has maintained her stance that it is not the right of parents to know about a minor’s abortion, and voted against making it illegal to transport minors across state lines for the purposes of obtaining an abortion.
Pelosi’s notion here is that it is fine and perfectly acceptable for a female minor to have “privacy” in matters regarding sex seems to disregard gay relationships as immoral. She has always voted that way.
Mark Foley himself has something to say, as posted on his Facebook blog:
“This is the senator that hired his staffer and then took her on trips … and divorced his wife … and they had me run out of town.”
Yes, he was run out of town and he should have been run out of the country for his deceptions and harassment of youth. But, if morality is an issue at all in Washington, why have such lascivious men as Condit and Clinton never once been asked to step down? Why has Baucus been allowed to carry on an affair, get her a cushy government job and take her on taxpayer-paid vacations across the world been allowed. And yes, he was drunk on CSPAN.
(Very few have yet to mention just how Baucus Montana stimulus dollars are being spent on tennis courts.)
Why for that matter has Pelosi not called for the ousting of Rangel — a tax evader — Barney Frank and Chris Dodd for the their scalping of the American financial system and outright criminal fraud and others. The answer is simple, Politics by its very singular nature is corruption and hypocrisy.
As voters, all we can do is make sure those who are exiting in 2010 have no chance to come back with fresh terms. It’s about time we cleaned the House, and Senate chambers of rats.
Scandal on either side of the political fence is finally getting the attention of America. Give up on the hypocrites and move along with candidates who support your values, and live them every day.
